Red Hawks Drop Series To Bruins

In the first match up, Lake Michigan came out of the gate ready to play scoring a run in the first inning. The Bruins answered back scoring one run in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third. The Red Hawks continued to chip away scoring one more in the fourth but could not produce another run. Kellogg sealed the win scoring four more in the bottom of the fifth leaving Lake Michigan with the 8-2 loss. Jarrett DeLand hit a single followed by a two run homer by Roman Kuntz. Jonah Sibley was the losing pitcher with only three earned runs, six strike outs, and three walks. 

The Bruins dominated the second game of the series scoring a run or more in six innings. The Red Hawks were able to push one run across the plate in the second and fourth inning and then went on a streak in the fifth, scoring five runs. Kellogg sealed their win in the sixth inning scoring five runs and giving Lake Michigan their second loss. (13-6) Andy Klavins and Roman Kuntz both hit home runs. Jarrett DeLand hit a triple while Cameron Dalrymple and Kyle Veersma had two hits respectively. Jack Westerhoff took the loss allowing four runs, one strike out, and no walks. 

In the third game of the series, it was Lake Michigan who scored two runs in the second. They held off the Bruins until the sixth when they tied the game. It was a battle into the eighth inning, but it was the Kellogg who scored and Lake Michigan could not respond losing 3-2. Owen Benson and Jarrett DeLand both hit doubles while Caleb Schmitt hit three singles. Dylan Matheny took the loss allowing one earned run, two walks, and three strike outs. 

The last game of the series started with runs scored by the Bruins in the first, second, and third innings until Lake Michigan could push two across the plate. The Red Hawks scored their last two runs in the bottom of the fourth but Kellogg answered back in the top of the fifth, scoring six more runs. This left Lake Michigan in a 16-4 defeat in five innings. Pitcher Clayton Bixby had two hits including a home run. Jarrett DeLand hit a double with an RBI. Will Roberts took the loss for the men allowing six earned runs, three strike outs, and three walks. 

The men head to Cornerstone University on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 for a double header at 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
